Have you ever tried to change your username in WordPress? If you do not know how to do that, then this article is for you. In this article, HOSTVN will show you two different methods for changing usernames in WordPress.
Method 1: Create new users and delete old ones
The easiest way to change username in WordPress is create a new user with the desired username and administrator privileges. Note you will need to use an email address different from the email address used by the old account. To create a new user you can see the WordPress user add user guide HOSTVN
After creating a new user successfully you need to log out and then log in with the new user account you just created. Skip to section Members (Users) and click the link Erase under your old username to delete old users.
While deleting your old user, WordPress will ask what you want to do with the content that the user has posted on the website. If you want to delete all content the user has created, select Delete all content, if you want to transfer content to other users, please select Take all content to:
After making your selection, click Confirm deletion to delete users.
Method 2: Change your WordPress username with phpMyAdmin
This method is a bit complicated because it requires changes directly in the WordPress database. HOSTVN does not recommend users to directly change the WordPress database. However, in some cases, you may not have any other option. For example, if you forget your username and email address, you will not be able to access the admin panel to change the username.
Using this method, you can find your username and you will also be able to change it. The first thing you need to do is log into phpMyAdmin.
Login to cPanel then scroll down and find phpMyAdmin and click on it to login phpMyAdmin
Log into DirectAdmin and go to MySQL Management -> phpMyAdmin
At the interface of phpMyAdmin you will see your database, click on the database you are using. If you have multiple databases, you can see exactly which database you are using wp-config.php
Once the database is open, click on the table wp_users then press Edit to edit the user you want to edit.
Changes in value user_login into whatever name you want you want.
Then drag down and press the button Go to complete.
Also with phpMyAmin you can change the admin Email or change wordpress admin password in case you have password.
