If visitors receive such a warning, make sure a lot of them will quickly exit. Therefore, you will miss many of the customers you will receive if the website is not hosted on a secure encrypted connection.

What is SSL?

On regular websites that do not run on secure (SSL) servers, the information is sent between the user and the web server as plain text. This means that hackers will see what users send you, such as contact forms, search features, or orders.

With a secure connection (SSL), data is sent between the user and the web server. This makes it almost impossible for hackers to read the text.

SSL is always used when sensitive data is transmitted. For example, credit card information when paying online. However, with the increased focus on protecting personal information, there is increased interest in encrypting all data.

Already in 2014, Google announced that SSL would now become a ranking factor. In fact, that means that websites using SSL create slightly better opportunities in Google. Therefore, you will also increase your organic SEO rankings by having SSL on your website / store.

Of course many other SEO factors and SSL so far are only relatively small.

However, there is also a small underlying problem with SSL - it makes the page a bit slower. If you have implemented SSL properly, it will be difficult for you to experience this. But if an error occurs, lower speed will have more harmful effects on SEO than SSL benefits.

With the new standard from Google, where entire websites without SSL are marked as insecure. Your own website should run SSL now!

How to get SSL on the website

If you have created your own website and used the normal hosting service, please contact the hosting company and find out the solutions they offer. Some support free SSL certificates like LetsEncrypt, others do not. In any case, they are the ones who need to set it up for you.

If you are hosting a website or using a virtual server you manage yourself, you must purchase an SSL certificate and set it up on your web server. It's a small task, so if you've never tried it before, then we recommend you try it. If it is not done correctly, the website will stop working.

If you have purchased a comprehensive and hosted web solution, please contact the vendor. Unfortunately, many people have not sent to SSL and in that case, you should put pressure on them to do so. Unfortunately, you can't do anything but switch to another provider if you can't provide SSL right now.
